Jeugdserie naar aanleiding van de speelfilm Flipper uit 1963 met in de hoofdrol de weduwnaar Porter Ricks die bewaker is in het natuurreservaat Coral Key Park in Florida. Samen met zijn twee zonen Sandy & Bud en de unieke dolfijn Flipper trekken ze vaak ten strijde tegen meedogenloze vissers, dieren in gevaar, gemene boeven en andere kapers op de kust.
In 1996 verscheen een remake van de oorspronkelijke film over Flipper; met Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee) en Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings)
